The End

So I'm sorry it's been so long since I posted. The last few days we spent running Jeff on the Yarbus to get some last-minute presentation videos, and then we practiced our presentation 3 times on thursday. It went really well on friday too.
Thanks everyone! All you readers of my blog out there, thanks for paying attention.

Tuesday

We went out to Wegmans for lunch and then returned to get in Jeff's little Mini and then we drove around for another hour while Jeff had on the tracker. After going thru a car wash and driving around, I think we'll have all the eye videos we need. And we talked to Joe about our presentation and made sure we could use Jeff's laptop for the presentation. And also discovered that if Joe was still an Air Force colonel, picking up a receipt with my name on it off his desk would NOT fly.

Monday

We showed Jeff our presentation and he suggested some valuable additions to our presentation. Now I need to make sure I am able to explain the concept of a color histogram to a big crowd and I should be golden. It was hot out today, and the Ritz was closed but the room above it was open so it's all good.

Friday (oh what a day)

Soo....where to start. The morning began with Jeff testing out his new work on the camera. Unfortunately there was still a bit of an issue as it still thought there wasn't anything plugged in. Then he fixed it again, after lunch, and we ran first Vince, then me on the Nexus along with a portable eyetracker. Our stimuli were interesting and I discovered that if you whack your hand on a door it works as a stimulus. Also we went to the Pita Pit for lunch and I met Katie's parents, who are pretty cool people. And so are the Pita Pit workers. Lastly I think that the Nexus' GSR sensor sucks the will to live. Either that or Duygu put something in her pop tart.

Thursday

This morning I worked a little more on our final presentation and then I helped Jeff with some of his camera ideas and troubles. After we ran Beth on the Nexus and the eye camera cut out, he took a camera home and soldered it so it wouldn't do that, but some of the connections were wrong.

Wednesday

I worked on my presentation after doing a bit more "segmenting" on the Procter and Gamble images for Thomas. I worked on my presentation for a long time in the PC lab. It's coming along well, but there's a lot more on basic visual perception that on what I'm actually doing, becase right now I think that for people to understand what me and Vince have been doing they need to understand the basics of how people see.

Monday (but really Tuesday, even though it felt like Monday)

It was my first Tuesday without having to go to the class. Thomas gave me something to do with the Procter and Gamble images and Jeff came in early to help me find a faster way to process them. I finished with that so then I went back and tried to get more shampoo images so that Thomas' program would have a bit more success in finding matches, or in this case, a bit less.

Friday

The poster session in the morning was cool. A few people from my lab had their posters up early and there were a few other interesting ones, one about a technology I'd never heard of called a "green wall," which is a wall with plants in it to make the air cleaner. Or that's what it looked like they were for. Anyway, I went to the Ritz for lunch and had some fish, good fish too.

Thursday

The class today was pretty cool, it was about motion pictures and then we tested the kinematics equations using a water balloon. Then I came back to the lab, got some more pictures for Thomas then went with Vince to see what the Optics people were working on and took a peek at the hologram session in the darkroom.

Wednesday (a bit late)

I worked on Thomas' project a bit today, and then went to a picnic with FREE FOOD! After that, we prepared the Tobii and then ran the dean of sciences on it!

Tuesday

I wasn't in the lab much yesterday, the class took a while and then I had my doctor's appointment so I went out to lunch before it. Helped Thomas a bit more with the product pictures but today (Wednesday) I should be able to do a lot more of that.

A monday in LASERS!!!

U of R was pretty cool, even if the tour guide was a bit less than knowledgeable. But it was pretty cool to be able to stump a Ph. D student with just a few questions, and it wasn't as if he couldn't explain where they got their spiderwebs.

ITT and the Stink-Van

So, ITT is a pretty cool company. Apparently they make the world's best optics, and Dave wasn't even paid to say that. They had a bunch of huge apparatusses (apparati?) for making sure that their lenses are perfectly smooth. Personally I thought that the pressurized water jet that cut through glass was the coolest one. Plus, there is such a thing as a free lunch. And Duygu and Katie M need more printer training.

Thursday

I wish, I wish, I wish lab meetings weren't at noon. At least next week they'll be later so I can safely get lunch in between. The lab in class was cool today though, and now this work in the lab is tedious but Sue does need it done.

Wednesday

Happy birthday Duygu! The party was fun even if I can't win at euchre. and the PhD defense, although way over my head, was pretty cool nonetheless. I also prepared for the coding for Sue and did some Matlab work for Thomas. Still learning how to use it...but still.

Tuesday

Class let out early today, and I think that I should check out the lab for class. Duygu's birthday is tomorrow! And the bike ride thingy was pretty fun, too. Hopefully I can pump up my tires and do this more often. Maybe next time I'll actually be on time.

Monday

It was one of those long days I guess. The morning took a long time, and I don't think I understand MATLAB very well. But that's what Paul is for, and he's helpful and I think I'll be able to do my part. Then the afternoon just whipped by. So tomorrow, after class, I'm helping with Sue's thingy.

Friday

So I discovered that it's pretty cool to have an experiment going on in your lab while you are working, especially if you are going to be a subject later. I had to (or got to, if you prefer) leave the lab every half hour or so for 5 minutes. I thought it was a good way to take a break from the work and see more around the building. The darkrooms are definitely cool, and lunch was pretty fun today. It went well and I have lots of stuff to do on Monday.

Wednesday (a bit late)

It was a long one. I didn't really know what I was supposed to be doing, because on Thomas' project we're running out of people and I still haven't seen any of the old products. We might have to go back and dig through more videos to find pictures of all the old project. And Mom was late to pick me up so I wandered around and read the Reporter which is pretty cool.

Thursday

It was a structured day. I got here early to do my homework, then went to my class (test was okay, wish I remembered to make a cheat sheet), and then ate lunch and went to boot camp. Not bad. I learned about Yarbus and I believe I will be participating in an experiment tomorrow. And after I got home, working at the library 6-9. Sleeping like a rock is inevitable.

Tuesday

Tuesday was busy. Thursday will be too, I guess. First a class, then lunch, then Boot Camp. (the musical.) It's okay, at least I have something to do rather than crop pictures, Boot Camp was pretty engaging and the cropping function got screwed up somehow. I'll fix that tomorrow..

Another Monday

It's hard coming back from a vacation, I think. But I got some real work today: find that key! And I somewhat know what I'm going to be doing for the rest of this internship. I'm helping Thomas in identifying products by color. A lot of information on that this morning but nothing I can't handle. Bad news: test on Thursday. I'm gonna have to read that book for quite a while.

Day 4: A Horrible Experience Has Happened

I woke up this morning feeling refreshed. I only had to snooze the alarm once. I went to RIT and was immediately swept up. From 9-12 I had the class that I take. Then from 12-2 there was a lab meeting that I forgot about, leaving me lunchless. Then from that meeting I went to our IDL course. Then after that I went home. It was new, for me, not having lunch, but I did enjoy work today, all the meetings and classes were definitely interesting if not enjoyable.

IDL - A New Hope

Noooowwww I get it. When we take it a bit slower and all work together more people are getting a handle on how this thing works. And I got my first material task in the Visual lab today too. We're in charge of the software for a new biofeedback machine. A good day.

Day 1

Well our building's fire alarm went off today. One student said he'd never heard it before so I bet this is all part of Joe Pow's elaborate scheme, or something. Convenient that it went off in the only room he can't get into?
Either way the scavenger hunt was great (go A Team!) and since I haven't done any real work yet, this is gonna be pretty cool. I'm gonna find that book though. It belongs there and we know where it is. "Photogrammetry" or something like that.
